Town of Hempstead launches first Long Island hydrogen station The Town of Hempstead has built Long Island's first hydrogen fueling station for car's that run solely on hydrogen and not gas. These types of cars create zero emissions and could be the next big thing for the automotive world. Videographer: Joel Cairo LI News Tonight: Hydrogen Station October 27, 2009: The town of Hempstead has opened what they say is the first hydrogen fueling station on Long Island. According to the town the hydrogen fuel is produced through a process that generates hydrogen from water. It's a process they say helps improve the environment and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Dana Arschin reports.
Long Island's First Hydrogen Fueling Station Offering a vision of a greener, cleaner future, Hempstead Town launches the first hydrogen fueling station on Long Island at the Department of Conservation and Waterways in Point Lookout. Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray, members of the Town Board, officials from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), National Grid and clean energy organizations discussed the importance of Hempsteads latest clean energy project geared toward demonstrating, evaluating and educating people about the potential of hydrogen technology. Several hydrogen powered zero-emission vehicles, including a bus and a fuel-cell powered golf course lawn mower, were on hand to provide vehicle fueling demonstrations and opportunities for test drives.
Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray and officials from National Grid and NYSERDA will be driving the first foundation piles as they start construction on Long Islands first hydrogen fueling station. Turning water into energy is at the core of a partnership between the three entities as they construct a fueling station that will power zero-emission hydrogen cars and trucks. |
